Why don’t business owner’s learn from other businesses outside their core business?

I just stopped in to Panera Bread for coffee, a breakfast sandwich and to write a blog post. Guess what happened? I had a FREE sandwich coming because of my loyalty rewards card! I was very thankful but then thought – why don’t more businesses do this? Why doesn’t the local coffee chain do this? Aren’t they visiting their competition? (Every table is taken right now as I write this).

I also recall another lesson learned years ago from a marketing book I read. A restaurant manager was waiting in a bank drive through line and had the thought, why doesn’t our restaurant offer a drive-thru service?

Today, it is said 70% of fast food restaurants revenue comes from the drive-thru window….70%!

Why aren’t more businesses learning these lesson’s from each other? Maybe we become complacent or stop learning? Or don’t challenge ourselves enough?

I for one, am always reading, learning, try to grow my insurance practice. Just joined a local Mastermind group to expand my vision, have other’s review my stuff and learn from each other.
