Consumer’s and homeowners think that a mold claim would be covered by insurance. Homeowner’s insurance are for things that are sudden and accidental. A tree falling on your garage. A 2nd floor bathroom pipe bursts and there is water damage to the 1st floor.
Mold is something that happens over time, caused by moisture gone unchecked. Mold can be prevented by finding the source of the water leakage. Once moisture is gone, mold cannot grow.
It is for this reason that mold isn’t covered by homeowner’s insurance, it could have been prevented before it started. It was neither sudden or accidental but grew over time. What may have started as a small water leak, was allowed to continue without repair.
Homeowners need to be mindful of the damages a water source can be inside a home.
